Can we expect a re-run of the Euro2004, supported by the fact that Greece came from nowhere to win it and the moolahs who had raked it for the Underdog Greece, certainly had a time to rejoice over their choice of bet. People say - the rudimentary virtues of spirit, industry, organisation and zeal to sustain competitive edge finally gave away the Euro2004 to the ever Audacious Greeks.  People looking for the repeat of Euro2004 in Euro2008 could take a chance of betting for the Austria which as of now has the highest returns with odds at 100/1. Folks- the host (Austria) has the home support.

In Group A, portugal seems to be the favorite to at least reach the final four stage. Banking on the world’s best player Christiano Ronaldo, Carvalho and tricky playmaker of Barcelona, Scolari has more reasons to be optimist about. Czech Republic under the captainship of Petr Cech, looks favourite for the top two slots in their Group, at the expense of Turkey and the Co-host switzerland. The co-host would however miss the service of Tomas Rosicky after being ruled out with an injury.

Group B - Germany captained by Ballack is boisterous about their chances of topping the Group, with Croatia, Poland and the Co-host Austria in their Group. But however one can’t take the things for granted. This group has the potential of bringing in a lot many surprises. Watch out for Group B this Euro2008.

Looking at the 4 groups that has been set for this Euro2008, Group C seems to be the most unpredictable. With France, Holland, Italy and Romania they certainly are fit for the tag - ” Group of Death“.  Romania had a fantastic qualifying round matches, were ahead of Dutch in the same. They also beat the Dutch 1-0 at home and held a goalless away draw.

Group D, comprising the Euro2004 champs Greece, Russia, Spain and Sweden is viewed to be the most competitive. The top guns of Spain, Xabi Alonso, Fabregas and Torres will have to come up with their expectations. The Swedes is equally strong and having beaten Spain 2-0 at home during qualifying matches, is another favourite.  However this could be a long wait for Spain - 44 years of waiting to be crowned as the Euro2008 champs.

Anyone to bet on that?  :)
