Well i missed the first half of Germany V Croatia and was amazed to see Croatia 1-0 ahead. So much for my 2-0 prediction for Germany to win.
The second half was a great bit of football. Croatia were in splendid form and croatia’s manager Slaven Bilic’s tactics were spot-on. Second half was underway and with half chances begging by Micael Ballack and Torsten Frings. When in the 62nd minute Croatia again push forward and a lunging cross from Ivan Rakitic takes a lucky deflection off Lukas Podlski which clips Jens Lehman, hits the post and rebounds perfectly for Ivica Olic to tap in.. And yep its 2-0 to Croatia.
The stadium errupts into a frenzy of chequered shirts and jubilent faces. Can croatia really be beating the tournament favourites. 5 Minutes later Niko Kranjar is brought down and shoots a free-kick straight in to the wall. And on the opossite end of the field Germany come close with a blast of a shot by Bastian Schweinsteiger which is duly saved by Stipe Pletikosa.
As things are looking to go all Croatia’s way the Michael Ballack’s header takes a forgiving deflection and Lukas Podolski is in prime position to fire it clean in to the net with a superb left foot volley. Could Podolski be on for top goal scorer ?
Croatia attempt to play keep ball and run the last few minutes down. With Germany having non of it. BAstian Schweinsteiger is brought down by Jerko Leko and retaliates out of frustration by shoving him to the ground. Which earns him a straight Red card and the first one of the tournament.
Few minutes later and the Ref has blown the whistle and Croatia have a well desrved win over a pretty predictable German side. Pre-tournament favourites, im not so sure now. Even if Germany make it out the group stages, they face Portugal in the next round.
Final score: Croatia 2 Germany 1
Verdict: Good game
