Euro 2008 Football Format

The Euro 2008 Football competition format makes sure the best teams in the competiton make it too the final.

Euro 2008 Qualifying
In the early rounds all teams are divided up into smaller groups From A too G. Qualifying matches played out in 2006 - 2007 determine which teams get placed into the 2008 Finals. These Football teams are then given points on game results played out in the qualifiers. 1 point for a draw and 3 for a win like a normal football league, with each team playing each other in their own “table” home and away to determine who goes through. The 2 top teams from each group go to the Euro 2008 championship finals.

If 2 teams are level on points UEFA chose the team based on certain credentials, such as:

  • Number of goals
  • Number of away goals
  • Goal difference
  • And recent rankings from other football competitions

From there the top 16 teams are divided up into 4 groups of 4. Goups A to D. These are our Euro Football championship tables. Each team in each table will play each other to earn points. 3 for a win 1 for a draw and 0 for losing. This system detemines who has the most points.

with the top 2 teams in each group will advancing onto the quarter finals where the competition becomes a knock out. The winners of each quarter final match go onto the semi finals. with the winner of the semi finals advancing into the Euro 2008 Championship final.

If any of the teams tie in any of the Euro 2008 football games. The game will go into extra time divided into two halves of fifteen minutes. If extra time doesnt work then the game will be decided by a dreaded penalty shoot-out.
